Our Founder

Orval Butcher

Dec 1, 1917 – Oct 5, 2010

Orval Butcher was born to be on a mission. As a youngster he led his church in triumphant musical expression. In high school he was the finest pianist in his home town of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and he used that talent to further his Christian witness. As a student at Miltonvale College, he transformed the music department with exciting sounds and contagious outreach.

He served as Minister of Youth at the renowned First Covenant Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota where he shepherded 1,000 collegians and built the famous GO YE teams which circled the globe in missionary endeavors. He helped launch Youth for Christ with a young Baptist minister friend he met in Minneapolis named Billy Graham. He traveled for three years with the Graham team, reaching many more thousands for Christ in evangelistic meetings.

What We Care For!

He left the Graham organization to establish Skyline Wesleyan Church, which during his tenure of 27 years, grew from the small beginning of only four adults to one of the largest churches in America.

When he retired from the pastorate, he became a Pastor to Missionaries, traveling around the world on behalf of Wycliffe Bible Translators under the auspices of ORVAL BUTCHER MINISTRIES.

In Honor or Pastor Butcher’s legacy and his deep love for worldwide missions, The Orval Butcher Missions organization exists to continue Pastor Butcher’s lifelong passion to proclaim and disseminate the gospel around the world.
